Hoedown for Hounds raises funds for Humane Society of Edmonson County

BROWNSVILLE, Ky. – The Humane Society of Edmonson County is continuing to carry out its mission of taking care of all animals in need in the area.

The humane society held their 3rd annual Hoedown for Hounds on Saturday night at the Brownsville Community Center.

The night featured a barbecue dinner from local restaurant Walden’s BBQ, dancing, games and live music from artist Andrea Guess.

The event also included a live auction with pet themed baskets, hunting and fishing baskets, gift cards and several other items.

Katie Smith, chairperson for the Humane Society of Edmonson County, said this is the organization’s largest fundraising event of the year, but it does more than just raise money for the humane society.

“For community relations that’s just really the best,” Smith said. “There’s still some people in Edmonson County who say, ‘We have a humane society?’ There’s really a lot we do for the community. There’s spay/neuter, pet food out to food pantries for people. We help with lost dogs, do microchip clinics, stuff like that.”

Smith also said that they wouldn’t be able to do what they do at the humane society without the support of everyone who attend this year’s Hoedown for Hounds.
