Hobson Grove Historic House eases stress of shopping with Christmas Market

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It’s the season for Christmas shopping in south-central Kentucky, and residents are going to be out looking for the best deals and the best gifts to put underneath the tree this year.

This Christmas season, a local historic house is continuing a Christmas time tradition by opening its doors to local crafters, vendors and shoppers to find those gifts. The Hobson House hosted its Christmas market and packed each floor with buyers and sellers, many who have been there time after time and some new faces looking to enjoy the Christmas spirit.

“We had vendors set up, on all three floors of the home. It’s a great day to get some Christmas shopping done, even on this cold, beautiful day. We are seeing lots of familiar faces and some new people who haven’t made it out to visit us before,” said executive director Brooke Westcott-Peterson.

Most vendors come back every single year to take in the history of the house and the great sales opportunities. They love it so much that a waiting list has now formed for the vendors to sell their goods at the Hobson House.

“The vendors who are with us, are generally the same ones. They love this event so much that we have a waiting list for people to come in because they enjoy the crowd, they enjoy the beautiful surroundings. It’s just a really a really nice, event with lots of good people who come in to check out the shopping and check out the house,” Westcott-Peterson said.

But of course, it’s the community that makes the Christmas market as great as it is. The house, which has stood the test of time since 1872, is an icon of the south-central Kentucky area and offers not only a great local shopping opportunity but an opportunity to see the history of their own community.

We have people who come, of course, from Bowling Green, but from surrounding counties as well. And inevitably every year we have people who come through the door who say, I have lived in south-central Kentucky my whole life. I’ve always wanted to come here, and today was the day. So it’s a great thing to get the community out here, to look around, to realize that this, you know, that this is part of their history as well, so that’s special to get to see the house.

The Hobson House will soon be closed down for the winter season, but before they do that, you can stop by for a candlelight tour happening later this month.
