“History holding history:” remodeling the ‘old jail’ of documents in Logan County

LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – The “old jail” as it is commonly referred to in Logan County holds over 80,000 documents, starting from Kentucky’s inception in 1792, and it’s getting an upgrade.

The Logan County Archives & Genealogical Society applied for a grant from the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives to help with a remodeling effort in order to serve the community better. As it stands, the society is running out of room, but with the $75,000 recently received from the grant, they are hoping to maximize the space they currently have, as well as begin to digitize records.

LCAGS staff told News 40 this will help them to serve the community much faster, and hope to get started on moving some things around in the beginning of February.
