Hilltoppers use Past Disappointment as Fuel for 2020-21 Season

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The last time we saw Western Kentucky University’s men’s basketball team was over four months ago as they held practice at The Star in Frisco, Texas just a couple of days before an all-important Conference USA Tournament.

As we all know, that tournament would last one whole night before being cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, largely because of that disappointing postseason that ended before it ever really began, the Hilltoppers have returned to the hardcourt this summer with a sharpened mindset and an improved mentality. Tops head coach Rick Stansbury believes those are a couple of key attributes that will only help his team moving forward.

“I do feel like there’s some appreciation now for the opportunities that we have and the abilities that we’ve been blessed with” Stansbury says. “Sometimes it takes more experienced guys to understand that.. but now we have enough experience mixed into this team. There are some guys who understand that and have been through a lot.”

The ‘Tops returned to campus earlier this month, on July 9th, as they prepare for the 2020-21 season.
