Hilltoppers Make the Most of Abbreviated Fall Camp

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are nearly a full week into fall camp as they continue preparations for the rapidly-approaching season ahead.

This past offseason has been a difficult one, but even with the numerous challenges that the Covid-19 pandemic has created, Tops’ Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach Bryan Ellis says that it’s great to be back out on the gridiron.

“I love our players’ energy,” Ellis explains, “…their ‘want to’ to get out there and play football just goes to show you how important this game is to (them), and as coaches, obviously we feel that way (too)…”

Perhaps the biggest storyline of WKU’s fall camp is the battle that’s taking place for the starting Quarterback spot.

The Tops’ QB room boasts two returners in sophomore Kevaris Thomas and junior Davis Shanley, a pair of true freshman in Darius Ocean and Grady Robison, and a Graduate Transfer from Maryland in Tyrrell Pigrome.

While the competition on the gridiron has certainly been fierce, Pigrome says that all the signal callers are there for one another and just want to see the team succeed.

“We all like coaching each other and teaching each other,” the Birmingham-native says. “We’re not against each other but we also know we are competing (against one another).”

The Hilltoppers will kick off their 2020 campaign in just over three weeks as they take on the Louisville Cardinals at Cardinal Stadium on September 12th.
