WKU Hilltoppers lose to the Liberty Flames, 30-24.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Quarterback Malik Willis accounted for 301 total yards and three touchdowns as the Liberty Flames spoiled WKU’s home opener and upset the Hilltoppers, 30-24.

Despite coming in as a two touchdown underdog, Liberty dominated Saturday’s contest and looked like the superior team from start to finish. The Flames racked up a gaudy 487 total yards of offense, including 354 rushing yards, and led from start to finish.

While Western Kentucky looked better on the offensive side of the ball, the defense continued to struggle.

The ‘Tops defensive unit performed better on 3rd Downs (5-14), but struggled to stop the Flames on 4th Down (3-4) which led to a number of points for the visitors.

Transfer quarterback Tyrrell Pigrome finished the afternoon with 193 passing yards and 3 TDs, as well as 62 rushing yards.

Western Kentucky will have an extra seven days to try and figure things out as they go on their BYE week before starting Conference USA play on the road at rival MTSU on October 3rd.
