Hilltoppers head into bye week after tough loss at Boston College

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – After WKU traveled to Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts for an exciting matchup with ACC opponent Boston College.

The Tops got up first in the game from a three-yard touchdown pass to Kisean Johnson from Caden Veltkamp in his second start for WKU this season.

And the Bowling Green native recorded another touchdown pass in the second quarter to Easton Messer to put the Tops up 14-0 over the Eagles.

But the second half of the game proved not as easy for WKU to keep up the momentum, getting outscored by Boston College 14-0 in the fourth quarter, and it would be enough for the Eagles to narrowly jump ahead and defeat Western by a final score of 21-20.

No doubt a hard loss for the Hilltoppers to see slip away but it did show head coach Tyson Helton what this offense needs to work on as the team heads into a bye-week.

“Like I said earlier, turnovers are a key piece, and we got turnovers defensively in this game that gave us an opportunity. We can’t turn the ball over offensively, especially when you play a good Boston College team,” Helton said. “Those two turnovers were critical, and that’s where offensively we gotta make sure we take care of that and don’t have that.”
