Hilltoppers Dominate Charlotte in Matchup of C-USA Heavyweights, 80-63

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers proved they are still the team to beat in Conference USA.
Junior Taveion Hollingsworth scored a season-high 30 points, Jared Savage scored 20 points and Carson Williams added 15 points of his own as the Hilltoppers used a dominant second half to defeat the Charlotte 49ers, 80-63.
With the win, Western Kentucky improves to 5-1 in Conference USA play and moves into sole possession of first place.
Charlotte, who entered Saturday with a perfect 4-0 record in league play, controlled the majority of the first half and took a one point lead into the halftime break.
But the second half was a different story, as WKU came out on a 8-2 run to take a 46-41 lead and never looked back.
The Hilltoppers shot a simmering 52.3% from the field as a team, including a solid 38.9% (7-18) performance from long range.
Western Kentucky continued their sensational shooting from the charity stripe, hitting 27 of their 31 free throws while Charlotte connected on 10 of their 13 free throws.
Head coach Rick Stansbury’s squad will be back in action next Wednesday as they hit the road to take on Marshall (8-10, 2-3 C-USA). Tip-off is scheduled for 6PM CST.
