Highway safety improvement project to begin in Warren County
BOWLNG GREEN, Ky. – A highway safety improvement project is set to begin on U.S. 68 in the Browning community area of Warren County.
Transportation officials say the project will construct a restricted crossing U-turn at the intersection of U.S. 68 and KY 242. Drivers should expect lane closures throughout the entire construction process.
The RCUT intersection is an innovative solution designed to enhance overall safety and efficiency at specific intersections. The RCUT prohibits direct left turns from the side street and establishes a two-stage process for left turns and straight-through movements from the side street. Motorists turning left or traveling straight across the intersection will turn right to proceed to the custom left turn lane provided to make a U-turn.
Once in the left turn lane, motorists will complete the U-turn when traffic is clear. The RCUT intersection improves sight distance and allows motorists to focus on traffic coming from one direction at a time.
Multiple RCUT intersections already exist on U.S. 68 in Warren and Logan counties. An entire corridor of RCUT’s was constructed on U.S. 231 Scottsville Road in the Alvaton area of Warren County in 2022.

The contract was awarded to Scotty’s Construction & Stone LLC in March for the amount of $1.4 million. The project is expected to be completed in late fall or early winter.
