Highland Elementary School holds assembly to prepare students for KSA testing

GLASGOW, Ky. – A group based out of Lexington that travels around the region to different schools is making their first stops in South Central Kentucky this week, including one in Glasgow.

Remix Education was created in 2008, and since then they’ve visited many schools throughout Kentucky and the surrounding area.

Monday, their trip in South Central Kentucky started at North Warren Elementary in Smiths Grove. It continued Tuesday at Highland Elementary School in Glasgow.

Staff with each school get to choose from different topics that they could present on. The staff at Highland chose to prepare students for the Kentucky Summative Assessment.

“We want them to be ready to, you know, put their best foot forward, and they’ve had an exceptional year. We want them to be able to, just finish strong and end the year well,” principal Philip West says.

“This one was a neat one towards the end of the year, kind of to uplift our kids and get them motivated for testing,” family resource coordinator Gretchen Williams adds.

The kids heard from a man named Hayden along with his friend Jiggy. They gave the kids some valuable tips to prepare for the test, like getting a good night’s sleep beforehand and eating a good breakfast. They also learned test taking tips like rereading questions, taking their time and using the process of elimination on questions they aren’t sure about.

The rest of their week starts at Austin Tracy Elementary in Barren County at 7:45 on Wednesday morning, followed by stops at Temple Hill Elementary at 9:45 and Hiseville Elementary at 1:00.

Then on Thursday, they’ll head to Adairville Elementary School in Logan County at 1:30.

The week wraps up on Friday at Lewisburg & Lost River Elementary Schools in Logan & Warren respectively at 8 AM, Alvaton Elementary at 8:45, Olmstead Elementary at 10:00, Cumberland Trace Elementary at 1:00 and Jennings Creek Elementary at 1:30.
