High speed internet coming to Edmonson County
BROWNSVILLE, Ky. – A new partnership involving Warren RECC and the North Central Telephone Cooperation, or NCTC, is set to bring high speed internet to residents of Edmonson County who don’t have access to it already.
“I know the members up here would appreciate it, because we’re trying to do the same thing we do in Tennessee and Kentucky for those that we serve to bring broadband service to Edmonson County, so we’re glad to be here,” Johnny McClanahan, President & CEO of NCTC says.
Officials in Edmonson County say this is just another step in the continued growth of the community.
“There’s a lot of great things going on in the community, and this is just one more step toward bringing us up to a level where it can build and help us build the growth in Edmonson County that we’re looking for,” Edmonson County Judge Executive Scott Lindsey says.
For one resident of Edmonson County, she had only one way to describe this new addition to the county.
“Having high speed come into the rural parts of our county is going to be a real game changer… for people that’s working remotely… for education… for every area… so it’s a huge game changer for us,” Pam Decker, a board member with Warren RECC & Edmonson County native says.
This new plan is set to be just as fast as the fiber it’s bringing.
“There’s going to be phases all the way through. I think some of it’s actually due this summer, and then we have another phase that’s due this fall, but we’re going to continue trying to work with the fiber optic companies that are coming in to get as much as we possibly can. It opens up so many doors for us, having the ability to have high speed internet here. It’s a wonderful thing for us to be able to offer to our community,” Judge Lindsey says.
The internet will be powered by RECC and provide speeds of up to 1 gigabyte per second.
It’s set to start going in soon and the hope is to have it all installed by the fall.
