High-speed chase on I65 leads to arrest of Louisville man

HORSE CAVE, Ky. – A Louisville man led police on a high-speed chase on I65 on Saturday.
Kentucky State Police says it observed a vehicle merging onto I65 northbound at the 53-mile marker entrance ramp in Horse Cave. The vehicle registration showed required vehicle insurance was not active.
A trooper attempted to pull over the vehicle. The operator did not comply and fled from the trooper, reaching 117-mile-per-hour in a 70-mile-per-hour zone.
The trooper says the vehicle swerved in front of vehicles at speeds of over 100 mile-per-hour through the Horse Cave. The pursuit continued to Smiths Grove near the 38-mile marker exit, before the vehicle stopped.
The trooper contacted the operator, Detrick Rhodes, 28 of Louisville. During the traffic stop, the trooper says Rhodes said a firearm was located in the vehicle and belonged to a passenger in the vehicle. After a check of the firearm, it was determined that the firearm did not have a registered owner and it was not stolen. A cup with liquor in it was also located inside the vehicle.
Rhodes was placed under arrest and is charged with speeding 26 mile-per-hour over the speed limit (limited access), reckless driving, first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree wanton endangerment, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, possession of an open alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, no registration receipt, and no registration plates.
Rhodes is lodged at the Hart County Jail.
