Heavy traffic expected surrounding total eclipse on April 8
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It’s a big deal – a total eclipse, and on a Monday, no less. Roads near western Kentucky are sure to be crowded leading up to and after the big cosmic event.
News 40 spoke to Wes Watt with District 3 of the Kentucky Department of Transportation, who said if you’re going to be out that way, be careful.
Watt recalled the traffic following the total eclipse in 2017. The best viewing spot that year being Bowling Green, he said Interstate 65 was at a slow crawl for hours that day after the sun came back out.
The transportation cabinet does not expect the amount of cars as then, but with Bowling Green being closer to those cities that will have a better view, roads will be a little congested on Sunday, April 7, Monday, April 8, and most likely Tuesday, April 9.
Watt said to use caution, give yourself plenty of lead time on those days if you have somewhere to be and exercise your patience.
