Heavy rains lead to localized flash flooding

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – South central Kentucky has seen an unusual amount of rain over the last couple of weeks and it doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.

With rain expecting to continue through Wednesday night, local officials are doing all they can to make sure people understand the dangers that accompany heavy rainfall.

Warren County Emergency Management Director Ronnie Pearson is urging residents to avoid driving over flooded roads at all costs.

Warren County isn’t the only area that’s dealing with localized flash flooding, though. Edmonson County Judge-Executive Wil Cannon says the heavy amount of precipitation has caused creeks and streams to overflow, which has led to the closing of numerous bridges throughout the county.

Regardless of how much, or how little water may seem to be on a road, Pearson says the most pertinent thing for drivers to remember is to “turn around and don’t drown”.

With the ground already heavily saturated, and more rain on the way, it could take over a month for the ground to return to normal levels, according to Pearson’s estimation.
