Hearing held for man accused of pulling gun on couple wearing Make America Great Again Hats

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -James Phillips, the Tennessee man accused of pulling a weapon on a couple wearing Make America Great Again caps at a Bowling Green Sam’s Club store, will remain in jail on a $10,000 bond.

At a preliminary hearing Friday at the Warren County Justice Center, Warren District Judge John Brown made the ruling on the bond after a public defender asked that it be reduced.

Brown also found probable cause for a grand jury to hear the case.

The case will be presented to a grand jury within 60 days, Warren County Commonwealth’s Attorney Chris Cohron said.

It was revealed by prosecutors during the hearing that Phillips has two previous weapons charges against him from 2009 and 2013 in Tennessee.

Phillips is accused of pointing a 40 caliber Glock in Terry Pierce’s face last Saturday night at the store, following a dispute over the caps he and his wife were wearing.
