BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A major winter weather system is very likely to move through the region early Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service Louisville has placed the entire Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 area under a Winter Storm Warning, beginning overnight Friday through Monday.

As of Friday afternoon, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says six to eight inches of snow is predicted, along with up to half an inch of ice.

Transportation officials say currently, the winter weather system is expected to begin to move through the district around 9 a.m. The system will continue to move through until sometime on Monday, officials say.

Frigid temperatures are a concern for this event. District 3 crews will report to their counties Saturday morning to begin treating and plowing roads as needed.

Crews deployed anti-icing operations Thursday and wrapped up Friday afternoon, transportation officials say.

Major traffic impacts are expected over the weekend through the first part of the week. If power outages happen, residents should treat intersections with non-functioning traffic signals as all-around stops.

In addition, downed powerlines and downed trees are possible.

Never touch a fallen power line, and report an issue to your area’s respective power company. If a power line has fallen on your vehicle, stay inside of the vehicle and contact 911.

Transportation officials remind the public not to call 911 or law enforcement offices to find out information about road conditions. For road conditions, visit GoKY.ky.gov. Snow and ice information, such as priority routes, can be found at snowky.ky.gov.
