Hart County schools weighs pros and cons of federal money

BONNIEVILLE, Ky. – Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has given Hart County Schools the option of accepting $2.7 million in COVID-19 relief funding to renovate Bonnieville Elementary School. To accept this money, Hart County must spent their $7 million in bonding potential.

Hart County Schools Finance Officer Chris Russell said that Bonnieville Elementary School qualified for this money based on a February 2020 report.  Assistant Superintendent Debbie Fowler said that since the report, many of the renovations the school needed like a new roof and safety locks have already been completed.

Fowler said they are extremely grateful for the state’s offer, but the school board will need to consider all things before making a decision. She said they want the best for Bonnieville, but they also want to consider other projects they were planning with the bonding potential.
