Hart County receives $20 million for new wastewater pretreatment facility, according to release

HORSE CAVE, Ky. – Hart County is receiving a multi-million-dollar state appropriation.
According to a release from The Marzetti Company, a $20 million state appropriation is being awarded to the Hart County Fiscal Court for the construction of a new wastewater pretreatment facility in Horse Cave.
The company says the investment secures ongoing manufacturing operations, local jobs and economic growth of the county.
Marzetti says the new county-owned facility will replace a 22-year-old system that doesn’t support current production demands.
The updated pretreatment facility will alleviate financial and operational burdens on the county, according to the release.
Marzetti says it employs approximately 1,200 people and purchases more than $73 million annually from state businesses and suppliers.
According to the release, engineering assessments show that the current pretreatment facility cannot be restored to meet modern demands.
The appropriation is part of Kentucky House Bill 900, which passed the Kentucky House of Representatives in a 36-1 vote.
The project is part of the fiscal year 2026-2027 proposal.
The bill was delivered to Governor Andy Beshear on April 1.
