Hart County Animal Shelter sees huge intake, but they aren’t alone

MUNFORDVILLE, Ky. – Many shelters across South Central Kentucky have seen a huge intake of dogs during the early months of puppy season.

The Hart County Animal Shelter is one of them, saying they’ve seen around 62 dogs in two weeks.

Shelter staff say numbers like these are overwhelming to be able to take care of, so they are urging you to adopt or help out in any way you can.

“We actually… we’ve had quite a few dogs brought in as strays that are pregnant because they’re not being spayed and neutered out there. If people would do a lot more of that, then the numbers would probably fall off pretty good,” Tony Roberts, Hart County Animal Shelter director says.

He also says the shelter has a foster program you can take part in, or you can simply come by the shelter, take a dog for a walk, and take pictures with them to post on social media.

Anything you can do to help find these animals a forever home is important.
