Hardin Co. man charged after child dies from self-inflicted gunshot
HARDIN COUNTY, Ky. – A Hardin County man is facing prison after a child in his care accidentally shot and killed himself.
On Saturday, Jan. 25, a 6-year-old boy gained access to a firearm and shot himself in the head.
The Radcliff Police Department says that 26-year-old Damarco R. Callen of Radcliff left a loaded firearm underneath a pillow in a bedroom where the child, Callen and other family members sleep.
Police say Callen stated he was in another room of the home when he heard a gunshot come from the bedroom.
The child was flown to a Louisville hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Callen was recently indicted by a Hardin County grand jury for second-degree manslaughter, felony wanton endangerment and more.
