Hardin Co. couple charged with child abuse in ongoing investigation

HARDIN COUNTY, Ky. – A man and woman from Hardin County are behind bars following the hospitalization of a child.

The Kentucky State Police received a request on Sunday, Jan. 8 regarding a 5-year-old brought into Baptist Health Hardin.

Police say the child was airlifted to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville for what authorities say were described as “life-threatening injuries.”

No further details on these injuries or the condition of the child have been released.

Clovis E. Smith, 25, of Rineyville and Satrina Layne, 23, of Rineyville were arrested.

Both remain in the Hardin County Detention Center, where they each face a charge of first-degree criminal abuse of a victim under the age of 12. The investigation remains ongiong.
