Hands For Life, a nonprofit organization helping combat injured veterans, is asking the public for donations

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A nonprofit organization with goals to help combat injured veterans is asking the public for help raising funds. 

According to Dr. Michael Elkins, the president of Hands For Life, says the Veterans Affairs Office helps combat injured veterans, but it’s not always enough and is very limited in regards to chiropractic care.

So, Elkins started Hands For Life to assist those veterans get the help they needed.

“Well, what we wanted to do was create a program where they could get our X-rays that they needed right away without delay. They could get care immediately with chiropractic, with dry needling, nutritional assessments, supplement needs, lab work. We often have veterans who call in and request specific tests to be done with lab work that’s not covered. So we provide those services as well,” said Elkins.

Elkins says veterans in need are something he feels strongly about.

“It’s important to me to help other veterans. Seeing the suffering that people have gone through after combat and the wait times that they have to incur just to try to get help really frustrated me,” said Elkins.

But, since its founding, the organization has begun running low on funds and Elkins is reaching out to the public to ask for help.

“That’s kind of the thing that’s always been hard for me to do as a veteran is to ask for help and especially to ask for financial donations. But, for something of this stature to succeed in the future. We really rely on the people who donate to us, and we’ve had some very generous donations from local people, but, you know, it’s an ongoing process,” said Elkins.

Right now, the nonprofit is on pause awaiting donations. 

It costs an average of $2,300 to sponsor a veteran.
