Hand it to a Hero collects donations for Toys for Tots
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- This weekend was a chilly one for south-central Kentucky, but that didn’t stop dozens of volunteers from coming out and giving a helping hand during the Toys for Tots Hand It to a Hero toy drive.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Western Kentucky University Police Department, Bowling Green Police Department and many more came out to lend a hand at the Walmart on Campbell Lane on Saturday. Multiple truckloads were packed full of bags full of toys for kids this Christmas.
Even the younger generation came by to lend a helping hand and say they’re looking forward to seeing the day when the kids’ faces light up because of these gifts.
“You get to see the looks on the kids faces sometimes when they come pick them up with their parents and it’s just like, Wow, I’m getting to help do this and make an impact on my community and help kids that need it” said Darby Meredith, a youth ambassador for Toys for Tots.
Thousands of dollars in toys were collected, with all of the toys that were collected, staying right here in Warren County and going to Warren County children. One volunteer says the community always pulls through for those in need.
“There’s this community is a very giving community and we’re just so proud of them and they really help us out and it makes it makes a Christmas a little bit brighter for a child that might not have as much, you know, and everything. So it just it warms your heart ” said Marine Veteran Malcolm Cherry.
One donor, known as Pink Lily, helped tremendously donating four full shopping carts full of toys for kids ranging from infants all the way to tweens, making sure all age ranges have what they need this Christmas season.
