Hammer-In to showcase metalworkers’ traditions

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Hammer-In makes a return this year to the Kentucky Museum on Western Kentucky University’s campus.

The event is a showcase of the blacksmithing talent in the area and this year features a special guest, Ernie Dorrill from Mississippi, who specializes in Gothic and Renaissance smithing.

Director of the Kentucky Museum Brent Bjorkman is excited to see Dorrill’s knowledge be passed to the smithing community of the south central Kentucky area and hope that many people come to the free event on Saturday.

“I think we have so many talented blacksmiths around here, and they’re they’re constantly learning from each other every second Tuesday of the month, from the first time we had the hammer in the Kentucky Forge Council was formed from that time. So, seven years we’ve been meeting at least once a month and teaching the public how to do some basic blacksmithing things,” Bjorkman said.

If you would like to attend the free event, visit the Kentucky Museum between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. this Saturday.
