Gyms seeing the impact of New Year’s resolutions

BOWLING GREEN Ky.-The calendar has officially turned to 2020, meaning it’s time to act on those New Year’s Resolutions.

Many make it a goal to stay fit by signing up for gym memberships. Gyms like Planet Fitness in Bowling Green have been seeing more sign-ups in recent days and weeks. Locally owned gyms, like Executive Fitness have also been seeing new members, and they hope to see more.

“We have a pretty steady influx of members signing up. We’ve seen a few more at the beginning of the year here,” said Executive Fitness manager Clayton Tandy.

“You see a lot of new faces at the beginning of the year, which is awesome, but it’s something that you want to keep seeing,” added Executive Fitness member Autum White.

Getting on track with a healthy lifestyle can be challenging at first, especially if it’s the first time striving for progress.

“A lot of people make these new year’s resolutions that they want to lose weight. They don’t know what to do, they don’t know where to start, they don’t have a plan. Coming to a gym is the first action,” White said.

While keeping resolutions can be a heavy burden, gym members offer this advice.

‘Be patient, stay consistent, stay motivated, remember why you’re here. Think about if you want to make this your new year’s resolution, make it this year,” White said.

A survey conducted last year by NPR and the Marist poll showed that the most popular New Year’s Resolution in the United States is to exercise more.
