Guthrie introduces legislation to increase immunization rates

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- South Central Kentucky Congressman, Brett Guthrie, is joining a bi-partisan movement to increase immunization rates across the country.

Guthrie is one of six lawmakers from both sides of the aisle to introduce the VACCINES Act. The purpose of the bill is to prevent future outbreaks of contagious, deadly diseases.

The Act would give the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention the ability to address barriers to immunization.

Under the VACCINES Act, the CDC would also be able to better track where there are changes in vaccine confidence or refusal rates. With the information, the CDC would be able to predict where an outbreak might occur because of low immunization rates and target vaccine education campaigns to those areas before an outbreak occurs.
