Groups holds awareness event about negative effects of tobacco

BOWLING GREEN Ky. – A group at Western Kentucky University held Kick Butts Day Wednesday to raise awareness about the negative health effects of tobacco use.

During the event, students could sign up to volunteer to check cigarette litter hot spots

Public health graduate assistant Mackenzie Pennington said raising awareness of the negative effects of tobacco is essential for the next generation.

“The effects of tobacco, regardless of if it’s just a little bit or a lot of tobacco usage, it’s not good for a person’s health. Just being able to participate in kick butts day and raise awareness of the effects of tobacco I think is important for the next generation,” Pennington said.

The tobacco free page of the WKU website includes a petition to support tobacco-free events.
