Greenwood Mall Job Fair seeking to fill over 200 open positions now

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Southern Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management, SHRM, partnered with Greenwood Mall to host a three-day-long job fair for local businesses.

28 employers from either Bowling Green or Franklin, Kentucky set up their booths in the mall ready to fill over 200 positions.

Program director for SKY-SHRM Cori Haber said this job fair is so special because many of the employers here are directly in charge of the hiring process.

“We’re bringing a lot of the HR directors and head up recruitment and managers. A lot of them are the ones at these tables. I think it’s a lot friendlier of the way as well to make that connection and to get in the door somewhere other than to just fill out an online application,” said Haber.

SKYCTC is one of the companies at the job fair looking to fill up their ranks. Administrative Services Vice President Sherri Forester said that their school hasn’t been immune to the job shortage woes the nation is facing, but, with classes right around the corner, they’re excited to recruit as many students as they can.

“We are struggling like all the other employers in the area, but we’re ready. School starts Monday. We’re ready for our students. We’re excited to have people back on campus,” said Forester.

Woodcraft Industries is another local company taking full advantage of SHRM’s job fair. Their company has operated out of Bowling Green for 26 years. HR Representative Anita Thompson said over the course of Wednesday and Thursday she talked to about 90 people. a blessing after fighting against Covid’s hiring pitfalls.

“Covid’s been a little bit difficult to recruit during. I have over 20 open positions that I’ve been trying to fill for several months. So, they really heard us and says, ‘Let’s see what we can do.’ This job fair to me is a blessing. We’ve had a lot of interest, and I’m hoping that will get a lot of our positions filled,” said Thompson.
