Greenwood Lady Gators soccer ends 2025 season with loss to McCracken County in state tournament

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Fresh off of claiming the 4th region for the first time in five seasons, the Greenwood Lady Gator soccer squad returned to state tournament play Tuesday night welcoming the McCracken County Lady Mustangs into the Swamp for round one.

The regular season did feature a matchup between the two programs, with Greenwood grabbing a 2-0 win in the beginning of September, but this time around, the Lady Mustangs would not be shutout, and in fact, they grabbed the lead first.

McCracken’s Lucy Farmery stormed in with a goal 15 minutes into the game, making the score 1-0.

In the second half, Lady Mustang Mady Ledgerwood was played a ball and wedged through the middle to score with the left, making the score 2-0 Lady Mustangs with just 20 minutes to go.

A few minutes later, Greenwood took a penalty kick and Landry Campbell scored to cut the deficit in half.

But that would be all for the Lady Gators, as McCracken held on to win on the road in round one, advancing to face Sacred Heart this weekend with a 2-1 win over Greenwood.

The victory for the Lady Mustangs caps off a 16-9 season for the Lady Gators.
