Greenwood High School marching band making strides after nearly two years without competitions

BOWLING GREEN Ky.-Big news for a local high school marching band. After nearly two years without competing, this specific band came back to show the state what they can do.

The Greenwood High School marching band has not performed in a competition scene for 23 months.

That all changed in 2021, when the gators competed in Russellville show of bands on September 18. The band received best percussion, best color guard, and first place in class 3A. They were top 5 overall in all captions.

Band director Nick Collar says he’s glad to see the marching gators perform so well, and he’s even more thrilled to be involved in the competition season.

“What is most exciting is to see their reactions after they perform. How they’re slapping high fives and giving hugs to each other and congratulating not only themselves, but some of the other bands that are with us. I think it’s something they’re going to hang on to past high school and build a lot of friendships because of it,” Collar said.

The Greenwood gator band will take the field again  Saturday September 25 at the Warren East raider invitational in the early afternoon, and then at the Warren Central dragon classic that evening.
