Greenwood High School student earns $75K scholarship
BOWLING GREEN Ky.- Leadership skills and teamwork learned through participation in the Navy JROTC at Greenwood High School, lead to a substantial JROTC scholarship for cadet Logan Flesher.
Flesher earned a $75,000 scholarship from the Army ROTC, and he will use that to pay for his college education at the University of Kentucky. He is also one of 22 students selected for the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross among more than 20,000 nationwide considered for the honor.
Flesher will be an officer in the U.S. Army once he completes his education. Retired Lt. Col. Eric Larson recognized Flesher’s leadership potential in JROTC, as well as other school activities.
“He’s a natural leader with incredible integrity. Moral and character is untouchable. He will do his best at every opportunity, and he won’t let people down,” Larson said.
As Flesher prepares to go and become a Second Lieutenant, he looks back on how the JROTC program has shaped him to be an officer in the Army.
“Leading means to lead from the front. Then again, you might have to lead from the back and let somebody else teach you some stuff, take those points, and apply those to hopefully better the other people. Yes, you better other people, but leading also includes bettering yourself from other people teaching you, so then you become a better leader,” Flesher said.
