Green River Ferry to close for several months following flooding damage
MAMMOTH CAVE, Ky. – The Green River Ferry is set to close for several months following flooding damage, park officials say.
Mammoth Cave National Park stated Wednesday, April 16 that the ferry sustained damage to its navigational cables and support tower during recent historic flooding.
Officials say the repairs will take several months. During this time, this will pause vehicle ferry operation.
While in service, the Green River Ferry provides a shuttle service for vehicles across the Green River.
While the ferry operation and boat ramp remain closed, officials say the Green River Ferry day use area will still be open. Park officials say hikers can use the Echo River Spring Trail and picnic area, and river paddlers can continue using the canoe and kayak ramp.
In addition, the Green River Ferry Road North will remain open to passenger vehicles only, while recreational vehicles and those with trailers will be prohibited.
The park says future closures of the ferry area may take place once a construction plan is in place. News 40 will provide additional updates as they are released.
