Green River Catfish Festival celebrates 4th of July and 45 years of fun
MORGANTOWN, Ky. – The annual Green River Catfish Festival is taking over Morgantown and Butler County, and celebrating 45 years in the process.
Friday’s festivities included singing and dancing courtesy of the Rose Band, who have been around for 40+ years.
The rides were back, as well as pageants for the kids to take part in… but of course, the real fun is celebrating 45 years dating back to 1980.
Staff say they hope this year has a lot of similar fun to what was seen back in the day.
“This year has just been sort of a revival of our festival and our traditions… after COVID, a lot of things shut down… and now we’re back to full speed. So many people are excited to be back here. We’re at the fairgrounds, which is a new thing for us. So many people are excited about the festival. They keep coming up to our board members and saying things that they remember about our Catfish Festival over the years… and so we love to reincorporate those into our festival as we can,” Morgantown Butler County Chamber of Commerce president Deneatra Henderson says.
Of course, as we celebrate America’s birthday, the Catfish Festival team is grateful that the community braved the elements and the holiday to come and hang out together.
“We need support to keep going of course… and we understand it’s hot, we understand that it’s a holiday. There are so many people here, and it’s great to see people reconnecting with each other… and there’s just, this is a tradition, and it’s… if you’re in a small town, that means a lot,” Henderson says.
