Great Bed Races kick off Derby week in Louisville
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – While fans are gearing up for this weekend’s big race, another race in Louisville celebrated 30 years of truly being a tradition unlike any other. The annual Great Bed Races were held Monday to kick off the Kentucky Derby Festival.
40 teams made up of mostly local businesses and charities competed, designing mobile mattresses for racing through a course of traffic cones.
This year’s theme was “Pegasus Power” with participants encouraged to dress up as their favorite superheroes.
Not only do they give out awards for the race, but there’s also the “Cone-Eater Award” for the team that hits the most cones.
GE Appliances took home this year’s top prize in the champions division while Saint Elizabeth Catholic Charities had the best time in the fun division.
A team from Bigelow Tea won the “Cone-Eater Award.”
