Graves Gilbert discusses benefits of following back-to-school checklist
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- With school right around the corner, Graves Gilbert’s Health Walk focused on helping parents prepare students for the upcoming school year.
As school quickly approaches, many kids are coming out of the comfort that comes with summer and realizing that the pressures of school are just around the corner. With a solid support system and a general understanding of what comes next, most kids become more confident and better prepared for the school year.
We learn from Morgan Wallace, a sixth grader, the experience many students face when going back to school after summer.
She says, “Well, getting ready to go back to school. Sometimes you can be a little nervous because you don’t know what’s going to happen, but My mom has really helped me because I am usually super nervous about going back, and she helps even though it may be nerve-wracking.”
According to most health experts, calming the nerves of most children comes from consistency and having a checklist.
Dr. Kelly Bennett, a pediatrician with Graves Gilbert, shares some of her suggestions.
She says, ” Summer is crazy. Our kids have all kinds of activities and things going on. It’s so easy to get their sleep routine off. So I think the biggest piece of advice for getting your kids ready to go back to school is about a week before school starts to get them back into their routine that, you know, kids feed off of our energy. And that is, you know, what they learn from. And so the way that we address things makes a huge impact.”
More of Bennett’s helpful tips that you can do on a daily basis, include ensuring car seats and seat belts fit properly, investing in swim lessons, and limiting juice intake.
