Governor Beshear announces domestic violence funding via Violence Against Women Act

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Governor Andy Beshear announced applications are now open for more than $2 million in funding through the Violence Against Women Act.

This act helps stop sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence & stalking in the Commonwealth.

Since 2019, Beshear’s administration has awarded nearly $11 million in funding, and he says they will stay focused on this issue until every Kentuckian is safe from abuse.

We spoke to the Barren River Area Safe Space to get a local perspective on how important this funding is to them.

“It helps pay for a full time advocates position. It allows us to have an individual working in three different communities in our court advocacy every single week. It allows that individual to do a lot of follow-up case management services and to be able to really walk with a person, from start to finish,” Tori Henninger, BRASS’s executive director says.

Applications are open until September 13th at 5PM via the Justice & Public Safety Cabinet’s Electronic Grant Management system.
