Gov. Beshear visits Barren County YMCA for announcement
BARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Gov. Andy Beshear visited the YMCA in Barren County Wednesday to celebrate the work and growth of the organization in the area as well as the addition of new funding and facilities to increase their ability to serve the region, specifically in child care.
Beshear gave comment when asked about the two local church groups that were stuck in Israel when the conflict with Hamas kicked off on Saturday, Oct. 7. River Lake Church, a group of people from Glasgow, returned from Israel on Wednesday.
“We are tracking each group from Kentucky that we know about that was in or around Israel, especially this last week. Thankfully, many of them are already on a plane or already home. I believe the other major groups have made it to Jordan and have a scheduled time to get out,” Beshear said.
On the topic of the YMCA, the governor celebrated the group for their work in enriching the lives of Barren County residents and for their efforts in teaching many of the areas children how to swim.
“Today, we are celebrating the renovated and expanded YMCA here in Barron County and in Glasgow. This has been a real foundation of this community. Every child from a major from the surrounding region learns how to swim right here for free.”
