Goodwill Industries program launching in Bowling Green to address homelessness

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A program to provide a path for the unhoused is launching in Bowling Green.

The Another Way program is an initiative starting July 1. The aim is to provide opportunities to gain job skills and work-based learning opportunities, according to a release by Goodwill Industries. The Another Way program got its start as a pilot in Louisville in 2019, according to the nonprofit, connecting more than 150 people to find employment.

Program leaders will use Goodwill transportation to visit homeless shelters, highways, byways and street corners, picking up willing workers to transport them to worksites, the release states.

In return, the nonprofit says workers will be paid $50, receive lunch and be introduced to Goodwill Bowling Green’s Opportunity Center.

The program is set to operate on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The release further states worksites will be decided by Bowling Green Parks and Recreation.

City manager Jeff Meisel says they hope the program will redirect those who are unemployed from making contact with the public for money on sidewalks to a new, better way of life.
