GO bg Transit works to keep buses rolling during pandemic
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -There are few, if any, areas of our lives COVID-19 -the coronavirus has not affected. One service that is working to stay available for those who depend on it, bus service.
The routes are built around stops that include access to vital services and places that make a routine life a bit nicer. Don C. Butler, the interim executive director of Community Action of Southern Kentucky, the organization that operates Go bg Transit says the routes stop near doctors’ offices, schools and shopping areas.
But now, there are new steps to protect riders from getting sick. Carrol Duckworth, the transportation director for Go bg says COVID-19 precautions mean more frequent cleaning of the inside of the buses. But the new approach also includes cooperation from employees and passengers.
Duckworth also requests that passengers should find an alternative means of transportation if they are feeling sick, with symptoms like a fever, cough or chills – a little extra safety to keep a crucial service up and running for all of those people who need it.
So far, according to officials with Go bg, no services have been cut but routes could be impacted if too many drivers become ill or if the government orders public transportation to temporarily shut down.
