Glasgow teen charged with leaving the scene of an accident

GLASGOW, Ky. – A Glasgow teen is behind bars after allegedly leaving the scene of a crash on Sunday.

According to a uniform citation, the Barren County Sheriff’s Office received information Monday that 19-year-old Barry Sexton of Glasgow, a suspect in a crash from a day prior, was walking along Scottsville Road.

Authorities say Sexton had left the scene of the collision before law enforcement arrived.

Sexton was detained. During this time, authorities say Sexton stated he was the driver of the involved vehicle when the collision occurred.

Authorities say Sexton further stated he and a female passenger were “having a few drinks” at Rural King before he drove in the rain and wrecked head on into a tree on Matthews Mill Road.

After the collision, Sexton states he tried to get help by knocking on a door and left the scene as he was “scared.”

Deputies say the female passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle before being transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital. She was later flown to TriStar Skyline Medical Center due to her injuries.

Sexton was arrested and transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital for medical clearance due to the prior collision.

Sexton remains at the Barren County Detention Center on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid/assist with death or serious physical injury.
