Glasgow police warn of rental scams

GLASGOW, Ky. The Glasgow Police Department is warning residents about a rental scam.

According to law enforcement, scammers are advertising rentals that either don’t exist, are already occupied, or that scammers do not even own.

Recently, police say an individual that inquired about an online rental listing was advised by the alleged property owners that they have rentals that will be available soon as they are currently occupied.

The “property owners” then ask for deposits to be mailed or sent by wire transfer to hold the properties, however, these people are not the legal owners.

Some scammers have even advised prospective tenants to travel to residences in order to view the properties and that the current tenants are aware that people will be coming to view the properties.

The Glasgow Police Department urges the community to be very cautious about rental properties that seem too good to be true or seem suspicious
