Glasgow police to participate in ‘Click It or Ticket’ campaign

GLASGOW, Ky. – With the upcoming Memorial Day holiday, the Glasgow Police Department is preparing for the annual Click It or Ticket campaign.

The Glasgow Police Department says it is partnering with the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety to remind drivers of road safety. Within the last year in Kentucky, police say over 500 were related to motor vehicles.

Nearly 300 of those killed in vehicle crashes were either not wearing a seat belt, officials say. Other incidents were due to improper car seat or booster seat use.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seat belts reduce risk of death by 45% for front seat passengers and 60% for minivan occupants.

Major Terry Flatt with GPD says that there will be additional units that “will be conducting safety check points and saturated patrol.” He says he believes the two seconds it takes to buckle up is “the simplest thing” to prevent “injury or death in crash.”

The campaign will run from May 20 to June 2.
