Glasgow police investigating crash involving Barren County school bus
GLASGOW, Ky. – Glasgow police are investigating a three-vehicle collision.
Public information officer major Terry Flatt says a three-vehicle crash closed the intersection of Happy Valley Road and Veterans Outer Loop on Monday afternoon.
According to a release by Flatt, a driver identified as Madisyn Nuest was trying to turn right from Veterans Outer Loop onto Happy Valley Road when she struck a Barren County Schools bus driven by Michael Cross as he was trying to turn left.
Flatt states this caused the bus to hit a vehicle driven by Viera Geovani head on while he was stopped at red light westbound on Happy Valley Road.
There was four students, one school bus monitor and the bus driver on the bus at the time of the accident, according to Flatt.
Flatt confirmed the bus driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital, while no students were injured or transported from the scene.
Barren County Schools has confirmed there was a Barren County bus involved in the accident. School officials say EMS checked all students on scene, and all students have been cleared.
The district has shared the following statement:
“Barren County School District confirms that a school bus was involved in an accident today at approximately 3 p.m. at the Walmart/Movie Theater intersection on the outer loop. Four students were on board at the time of the incident. EMS responded immediately and evaluated all students, as well as the bus monitor, and they were cleared with no reported injuries. The bus driver was taken to the hospital for further evaluation. All families were contacted, and students were transported home. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and we are thankful for our first responders for their quick response and professionalism.”
