Glasgow Police Department receives reports of FBI scam

Glasgow Police

GLASGOW, Ky. – The Glasgow Police Department says it is warning the public about a scam in the community involving someone impersonating an agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Police say they have received several complaints about the scam circulating in the Glasgow area.

Authorities say it involves someone calling around while impersonating an FBI agent. The caller then asks people to withdraw cash and meet them or wire transfer money to “pay off their trouble.”

The Glasgow Police Department says the FBI will never call or email a private citizen to demand payment or threaten arrest. Authorities say the FBI will also not ask to wire a settlement to avoid an arrest.

If you think you may be a victim of this scam or any other online scam, file a report with your local law enforcement agency and the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov.
