Glasgow man charged with murder in fatal Hart County crash investigation
HORSE CAVE, Ky. – A Glasgow man is now charged with murder in relation to a Hart County crash in May 2025.
According to court documents, 31-year-old Cory Bowles of Glasgow was issued an arrest warrant on indictment for the charge of murder on Tuesday.
Kentucky State Police state they served the warrant on Wednesday. Bowles was taken into custody and lodged in the Barren County Detention Center on a $500,000 cash bond.
The murder indictment stems from a crash on May 30, 2025.
According to authorities, 23-year-old Dru Smith of Glasgow was parked on the side of the roadway on Interstate 65 near the 59-mile marker in the southbound lane.
Investigators say Cory Bowles was traveling southbound when his vehicle veered off the roadway and crashed into Smith’s vehicle.
Cory Bowles and Mindy Bowles were transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital for treatment and later flown to University of Louisville Hospital. A male juvenile passenger was transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital, and a female juvenile passenger was flown to Norton Children’s Hospital.
The female juvenile passenger later died due to injuries at Norton Children’s Hospital.
Smith was flown to the University of Louisville for injury treatment.
Cory Bowles was issued a warrant of arrest on indictment on July 1, 2025. The warrant was served on July 8, 2025.
Cory Bowles was originally charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and fourth-degree assault.
According to court documents, Cory Bowles’ arraignment is scheduled for January 20, 2026, at the Hart County District Court. In addition, his jury trial is scheduled for August 26, 2026, at the Hart County District Court.
The investigation is ongoing.
