Glasgow City Council members sworn in

GLASGOW, Ky. – Cities and counties across the state are preparing for the new year and new political faces after the November election.

The City of Glasgow swore in its nine city council members on Monday, including three new faces. Elizabeth Shoemaker, Tommy Burris and Randy Wilkinson will be the newest members to the city council replacing members Patrick Gaunce, Max Marion and Marlin Witcher.

One of the new members says she cannot wait to get to work and thanks the voters for electing her to the new position on the city council.

“I’m very excited. Very excited. I think I’m still a little bit in shock that I even won. And I really appreciate all the votes from the citizens of Barren County, and I look forward to working for the citizens of Barren County,” newly elected Glasgow city councilwoman Elizabeth Shoemakers said.

New councilman Randy Wilkinson may be a new face on the council but is a familiar face from the community, having served many years for the Glasgow Independent School District in many different roles.

The new council comes in during an important time for Glasgow as they look to expand and cash in on Kentucky’s economic boom.

Shoemaker says she would like to find ways to improve the quality of life for Glasgow’s residents and to find ways to keep graduates in Glasgow after graduation rather than move to a different city.

In her 60-plus years of residency in Glasgow, Shoemaker says that has been a very concerning trend she has noticed.
