Glasgow attorney charged with the assault of a child
GLASGOW, Ky. – A local lawyer has been charged with 4th-degree-assault on a 14-year-old.
Shawn Ken Garrett is an attorney at Garrett Law Office in Glasgow and works in part as a criminal defense attorney.
In a criminal complaint summons, Garrett is accused of intentionally and wantonly causing physical injury to a teenager by spanking the child with a wooden paddle-shaped board used as wall decoration in his home.
The summons says the child had been paddled in the same way several times on the same day.
During the last paddling, the defendant used so much force the one-inch-thick solid wood paddle split into two pieces, according to the summons.
Garrett’s attorney has released a statement saying “the claims are unsubstantiated”.
Garrett is set to be arraigned on November 29 at 8:30 in the courtroom of Judge Gabe Pendleton.
