Girl Scouts celebrate 114-year anniversary
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – March 12 is the Girl Scouts’ birthday, and to celebrate, one local speakeasy is getting in on the celebration by creating a new dessert with the new cookies.
Most people recognize Girl Scout Cookies. While that is a delicious factor, for 114 years, Girl Scout troops all over have strengthened talents and created a space for girls to dream, and this year is not different.
For many girls, it’s more than just selling cookies. It’s also a chance to discover new skills.
AJ dayton, a local Girl Scout, says, “I feel like it’s really nice to show that girls aren’t just like the pretty pink princess, to show that there’s more to them than what you think.”
And for one local chef whose aunt volunteered with the Girl Scouts, he was motivated to use his talents to continue the tradition of service.
Michael thorp, executive chef at The Mustang Club, said, “Oh, it’s awesome. I was a Boy Scout. This is another way for me to help the community. Mustang Club is all about community and family. So it’s the Girl Scouts, so this is a great way to help them celebrate a big year.”
The Girls Scouts creates a safe environment to trust their gut, give back to the community and try new things.
Gemma Dayton, a Girl Scout, tells us, “Well, and for those that are out there that want to be a Girl Scout and that, if you have a sister in there, I felt that way too. And also, it’s fun to learn new things.”
