Girl Scouts celebrate 109th anniversary
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Today is the 109th anniversary of the Girl Scouts, and the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana are celebrating this milestone of their organization.
Sue Duncan, one of the oldest girl scouts in the Bowling Green area, has been a part of the organization since the 1950s.
She spent today at the Girl Scouts office in downtown Bowling Green, where GrubHub drivers were coming to pick up cookie orders. They also had Girl Scouts at Greenwood Mall today selling the cookies to people walking by.
Duncan said she started Girl Scouts when she was nine years old. Duncan said back then the main focuses of Girl Scouts were home activities like cleaning and sewing and that today there is more of a focus on confidence.
“I think it’s something that’s helped a lot of girls go on and be something better than what they could be or would’ve been. And given girls a better sense of independence,” said Duncan.
Duncan said her favorite Girl Scout cookie is Samoas, closely followed by Thin Mints.
