Ginseng poachers cited at Mammoth Cave National Park

MAMMOTH CAVE, Ky.- Mammoth Cave National Park announced Thursday that it has cited two individuals, accused of illegally poaching over 100 roots of American ginseng from within the park.

It’s a violation to remove any plant from the park, and ginseng is further protected from harvesting.

Dried ginseng roots are used in medicines, teas and other health products.

The park said its botanists have replanted the illegal harvested ginseng with some degree of success.

If anyone witnesses suspicious activity in the park that could be related to ginseng harvesting, you’re asked to call Mammoth Cave law enforcement at (270) 758-2115.
